In today's information overload, static marketing materials just blend into the background noise. Savvy marketers recognise that to truly engage existing and potential customers, brands need to move beyond the ordinary. Here is where AR (Augmented Reality) comes in, where digital meets reality to make your marketing material come alive.
With a smartphone, your customers are able to visualise experiencing your product. For example, if you run a clothing store, customers will be able to try on clothes, and this reduces product returns and saves your company thousands in logistical costs and wasted products.
Another example would be if you run a furniture store, your customers will be able to visualise how your furniture will look in their home and potentially affect their buying decision to be more immediate than before. This is taking “seeing is believing” to a whole new level, and we here at Brandripe are huge believers in using AR to your advantage.
Fortunately, with the existence of smartphones, AR is more accessible to most consumers. As a result, many brands such as Heineken, Maxis, Pizza Hut and more are bringing their marketing to life with AR activations.
What these brands have realised is that AR is beyond just some marketing gimmick, it creates a real and tangible bond between your brand and your customers.

At Brandripe, we're passionate about staying ahead of the curve. We don't just follow trends blindly; we actively track what leading international brands are doing.
This allows us to understand how cutting-edge strategies are being implemented in the real world. Here are some inspiring examples:
As part of the extension of Coach’s Metaverse Fashion Week, Coach launched a campaign to lure more people into the store by allowing them to try on their new Tabby collection using an AR-window. If the AR Window manages to draw the customer to enter the store, the customer can visit the AR mirror kiosk, where customers can browse through more bags, snap a photo and share it on social media with the hashtag #InMyTabby.

Even back in 2017, IKEA was a front-runner for AR when they launched IKEA Place for their customers to try out their furniture virtually.
This app later developed into IKEA Kreativ where customers can scan their room with the app, and then place their favourite furniture with AR experiences which are also powered by AI.
One of the most incredible features is the option to virtually delete your existing furniture to allow room for you to place IKEA furniture. By doing this, customers will get to have better creative freedom and create the space of their dreams. Customers can also check out the items that match their ideas and have them delivered right to their doorstep.
Even beauty brands like Christian Dior jumped on the bandwagon of AR try-ons when they realised they could use AR to help customers select their perfect lipstick share by using AR. The campaign leveraged a video ad format on YouTube and Google partner sites.
These videos featured an AR panel that displayed various lipstick shades on models with diverse skin tones. Viewers were then invited to participate in a virtual try-on experience using their smartphone camera's selfie mode.
The AR functionality offered a convenient and interactive way for customers to explore the Dior Addict Lipstick collection. Additionally, the video ads featured a shoppable "buy now" call-to-action, allowing viewers to seamlessly transition from discovery to purchase on the Dior website.
The campaign, as one would expect, achieved significant reach, garnering over 4 million views across Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar. Plus, a high level of engagement was observed, with 41% of viewers interacting with the AR try-on panel.
Unsurprisingly, this resulted in over 400,000 virtual lipstick applications and a substantial number of mobile screenshots (over 2,000), suggesting that viewers found the campaign both informative and visually appealing.
Christian Dior Parfums expressed their satisfaction with the campaign's results and indicated a continued interest in exploring AR technology and other interactive marketing solutions for future campaigns – which suggests a potential shift towards a more immersive and engaging online shopping experience for Dior Beauty customers.
In conjunction with the launch of the 2023 Toyota Crown, Toyota collaborated with Yahoo Advertising to create an immersive AR experience. Consumers could use their smartphones to visualise the Crown in their own environment, such as a driveway or garage.
The AR experience allowed for a 360-degree view of the car's exterior and even a virtual test drive from the driver's seat. Additionally, users could explore different colour options and access information about the Crown's features.
This interactive approach aimed to provide potential buyers with a more immersive car shopping experience, while potentially offering Toyota valuable insights into customer preferences through user interaction with the AR features. The campaign was supported by various advertising channels, including digital out-of-home (DOOH) ads with scannable QR codes, banner displays, and connected TV (CTV) advertising.

The automotive industry has seen a growing adoption of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies in recent years. These technologies offer a way for car brands to showcase the features and capabilities of their vehicles to potential buyers, without the need for a physical showroom visit.
This approach proved particularly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic when showroom closures were widespread. However, the trend has continued beyond this period. For example, in March 2023, Ford utilised a virtual launch strategy for their new All-Electric Explorer, including a virtual reveal on LinkedIn, influencer content featuring photorealistic CGI visuals, and a virtual test drive experience.
